The weather has been horrendously hot lately, and while I don’t like to complain, it can be a nightmare for keeping your makeup in check!

No-one wants to look like a sweaty mess, and especially not when you have a night out, wedding or other social event to attend. So read on for my top tips for keeping your makeup on point during a particularly hot spell….

  1. Remember your skincare
This goes without saying at any time of year, but especially during hot weather. Always start your makeup with clean skin and use a light moisturiser, followed by SPF.
  2. Don’t skip the primer
Primer is a key step in any makeup application. It creates an even base for your makeup, and helps everything stay put, especially on hot days. There are so many primers on the market today, and everyone has their favourite. Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow is one of mine, or if you’re looking for a high street recommendation, Elf Powergrip Primer is also great.
  3. Lighter is better
During hot weather opt for a lighter coverage of foundation, or a bb cream or tinted moisturiser – they feel less heavy on your skin and give a more natural look during hot weather. Mac Strobe Dewy Skin Tint is one of my favourites.
  4. Go waterproof
For obvious reasons, it’s better to use waterproof mascara, eyeliner etc during hot weather. If you do end up sweating, the panda eye is not a good look!
  5. Finishing touches
A setting spray will help keep your makeup in place, especially when it’s very hot. I still love Urban Decay All-Nighter; I’ve been using it for years! If your skin is oily and prone to getting shiny through the day, a translucent setting powder should be a staple in your makeup bag. Mac Studio Fix Pro Set + Blur is great for this.
  6. Keeping cool and maintaining that look
Carry blotting papers with you to blot any excess oil and sweat through the day. Also consider carrying a facial mist to keep your skin cool and hydrated.
