A summer wedding….

| Weddings | , , , | by

It’s time for another blog post, and this time I thought it would be nice to feature one of my weddings from this summer, since I’ve not done one of these posts for a while.

I’ve been running Sarah-Lou Beauty now since 2012, and these days I often find a lot of my new clients are recommended to me from previous brides. This is exactly what happened with Gemma; I did bridal hair and makeup for one of her bridesmaids a couple of years back and she recommended me.

Gemma was a super organised bride and booked me to do her bridal hair and makeup a year and a half before her wedding! This was definitely a good idea as it’s not unusual for my diary to fill up well in advance, especially for weekend dates in the summer months.

I first met Gemma later that year, when she booked me to do her hair and makeup for a family wedding. It was great to meet her and get to know her and her hair and makeup likes and dislikes before the main trial. On this occasion she went for a simple but elegant updo and some gorgeous glam makeup.

Fast forward another 6+ months and I did hair and makeup trials for Gemma and her mum, Michelle. Gemma wasn’t sure if she wanted her hair up or down for the wedding, so we tried a couple of styles. Gemma was fortunate enough to already have her dress home at this stage, so she was able to try it on with each hairstyle and take some pics to look back on and make the final decision!

On the wedding morning, I went to the venue to get Gemma and her girls ready; the fabulous Waterside Hotel in West Kilbride. Such a lovely location right on the beach, and an amazing honeymoon suite!

It was an early start, and the weather wasn’t the best (even though it was July!) but that definitely didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. It was great to have a giggle with the girls while I got everyone ready. It was also great catching up with Gemma’s bridesmaid Laura, who I did bridal hair and makeup for a couple of years earlier, and meeting Gemma’s other bridesmaid Rebecca, for the first time.

On the day, Gemma decided to have her hair up, and went for a gorgeous, soft and relaxed updo with lots of loose strands. Makeup was nice and natural with some shimmer and strip lashes – just perfect!

The bridesmaids chose their own hair and makeup styles, with Laura opting to have her hair down with some soft curls and Rebecca choosing loose waves pinned round to one side. Both girls went for a natural makeup look to complement the bride. Mother of the bride went for a lovely soft updo with subtle makeup. All four girls looked stunning!

Gemma’s photographer, Cara Frew Photography, captured some fantastic getting ready shots! It was the first time I’d actually met Cara, but strangely enough we were both working at the same wedding the following day.

What an amazing morning getting Gemma and her girls ready and I’m so happy to have been a part of it!

A bit about me…..

| Weddings | , , , | by

While I was thinking about a topic for my latest blog post, it suddenly occurred to me, that until you actually meet me, you probably don’t know much at all about me and why I chose to be a hair and makeup artist.

A part of my job I really enjoy is getting to know all my clients. I love taking time to chat with you and hearing all about your lives. So it’s only fair you should know about me too….. so here goes…..!

Sarah-Lou Beauty

I’m 42 years old and live with my husband, Kevin and our two daughters, Millie and Mia. I love travelling, sport and spending time with my family. I haven’t always been a hair and makeup artist, although I have always been interested in hair and beauty.

When I was at school I seriously considered a career in beauty, and even got to the stage where I had narrowed down a few different college courses. But something changed my mind and I chose to study admin instead.

Fast forward a few years and my job led me into marketing, where I gained further qualifications and had quite a successful career as a marketing executive in the software industry (I know…. poles apart from what I do now!).

Although I did enjoy my job, I never felt like it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and was always on the look out for something new. After having my first daughter in 2006, I went back to work full-time and found my priorities and attitude to work had changed.  After a couple of years I was made redundant, and this became the catalyst for my change in career.

I was pregnant with my second daughter and realised this was my opportunity to choose a career that I was passionate about and would fit around my family. So I decided to take some time out and re-train in beauty, makeup and hairstyling. And from there, Sarah-Lou Beauty was born.

Starting my own business has been the best ever move for my career, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to do this.  Do I regret not choosing a career in hair and beauty straight from school? Absolutely not! My business and marketing experience has been a fantastic foundation for Sarah-Lou Beauty.

I love meeting new clients every week and having the opportunity to be a part of your special day. Nothing compares to seeing the end result of my hard work, and most importantly, having happy clients!

Getting the most from your hair and makeup trial

| Weddings | , , | by

I feel as if these days I always start my blog by commenting how long it’s been since I last posted. And this one is no exception! The months have flown by and once again my blog has been way down on my to do list.

So without further ado, I’ll get onto the topic in question this time; getting the most from your hair and makeup trial.

Many brides I speak with say they don’t know what to expect at their hair and makeup trial and often have loads of questions, so I thought it would be a good idea to focus my latest blog post on this very subject. Your wedding hair and makeup is such an important part of your overall look, and for this reason alone, I always recommend having a trial, even if you’re pretty certain on what you want. The last thing you need is to get to your wedding morning and find you don’t like the look you had your heart set upon.

The right time
Brides will often ask me when I would recommend they have their trial, but to be honest, there’s really no set rules. Some people will have theirs months in advance, whereas others will wait until just a couple of weeks before the wedding. Whatever you decide is absolutely fine.  One thing I would say, is if you’re unsure of what you want, then it may be best to have your trial sooner rather than later, so you have plenty of time to find the right style for you.

Some brides like to arrange their hair and makeup trial for the same day as their dress fitting, and this is a really good idea to help you see exactly how everything will look together on the day. If you can’t manage this, then it might be a good idea to wear something white to your trial, so you can see how make-up colourings etc will work.

Another option is to book your trial to coincide with a night out, such as your hen do. A lot of brides like to do this so they can make the most of getting their hair and makeup done. Although this will depend on whether you’re happy for people to see how you’re having your hair and makeup on the wedding day.

Preparing for the trial
It’s a good idea to think ahead and try to replicate exactly how you’re hair and skin will be on the day. So if you’re planning on getting your hair trimmed or coloured just before the wedding, then do the same before the trial, or if you’re having a spray tan for the wedding, then get one done before the trial as well.

In terms of preparing your hair and skin, it’s always best to wash your hair at least the day before the trial, as ‘day old’ hair is much easier to work with. That said, if you do usually wash your hair every day and are concerned it may look greasy if you don’t, then no problem at all to wash your hair the morning of the trial, just go easy on the conditioner so it’s not too soft!

For your makeup trial, you should have a makeup free face with no product at all.

It’s important to keep a good skincare routine in the run up to the wedding (and all the time!). You should cleanse, tone and moisturise morning and night. You can also exfoliate 1-2 times a week and most importantly, drink plenty of water! If you have time, and budget allows, try and fit in a couple of facials as well, but not too close to the wedding day as they can sometimes cause your skin to break out.

During the trial
There’s no set amount of time that the trial will last; Basically, I’m there until you’re happy. But as a guide, a typical hair and makeup trial would last between 1 ½ to 2 hours. At the start of the trial I’ll spend time chatting with you about styles you like and dislike, and how you would normally wear your hair and makeup, both day-to-day and also when you go out.

It’s helpful if you can collect pictures beforehand of some of your favourite hair and makeup styles, but it’s also important to remember that everyone is different, and styles won’t always look the same on everyone.

One thing I can’t emphasise enough is please don’t be afraid to say if you don’t like something! This is exactly why we do a trial, and I would much rather you said you weren’t happy with a particular style so we can work together to change it. Sometimes it just takes a very small tweak to turn your hair and makeup from something you’re not sure about to something you absolutely love.

Final tweaks
I’ll take pictures from the trial and make detailed notes of all products used, so we know exactly what we’re doing on the day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make changes. Sometimes you just need to take a step back and have a re-think and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. And if it happens that you decide after the trial that you want to change something, that’s no problem either. We don’t always see things until we’re looking back at photos afterwards, which is another very good reason why it’s important to have a trial! Things can be tweaked on the wedding day without any problem.

Having a hair and makeup trial before the big day will help give you peace of mind for the wedding morning.  Hopefully these tips will help you get the most from your hair and makeup trial, and also help to make it the enjoyable experience that it should be!

The ‘no makeup’ makeup look

| Weddings | , , | by

OK, I know…. Just before Christmas I promised to share with you my Christmas party makeup and a rundown of the products I used. Unfortunately December proved to be a very busy month and time just ran away with me.

Since Christmas is now well and truly over with, I’ve decided to leave my party makeup blog until a bit later, and instead I’m going to share with you my tips for achieving that fabulous glowing ‘no makeup’ look.

I’m sure we’d all love to jump out of bed in the morning and leave for work with our skin looking effortlessly flawless. But in reality, that very rarely happens. The ‘no makeup’ makeup look seems to be very popular at the moment, especially among celebrities, and I think it’s a great way to differentiate your daytime makeup from your nighttime party makeup.

The main thing to remember with a no makeup look is ‘less is definitely more’. Always use a light touch and apply products sparingly. That way you’ll avoid looking too ‘made up’.

A good skincare routine
A good skincare routine will undoubtedly help you achieve a fabulous no makeup look. As a very minimum, you should be cleansing, toning and moisturising every day, morning and night, to make sure your skin is free of dirt, oil and makeup. Once a week you can exfoliate and use a face mask for a deep cleanse. You also need to know your own skin type, whether it’s dry, oily, normal or combination, so you can use products that are appropriate. And don’t forget, your skin type can change depending on a number of factors including the time of year, hormones and age.

Primer
Using a primer will help even out your skin tone, so it’s the perfect base for your no makeup look and also helps your makeup stay in place. My favourite, and the one I have used in this picture, is Mac’s Prep and Prime Natural Radiance. It’s even got a bit of shimmer in it to help with a natural dewy look.

Base
Rather than using the full coverage foundation you would use for a night out, opt for something a bit more minimal for your no makeup base. Tinted moisturiser or BB cream is ideal, or if you want something just a bit heavier then go for a light to medium coverage foundation. The one I have used here is Mac Face and Body Foundation, which I just love. Then add a touch of your favourite concealer under your eyes if you wish. I’ve used NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.

Bronzer and Highlighter
Because this is a no makeup look we aren’t going full on contour, but there’s definitely still a place for some bronzer and highlighter. Use a light sweep of cream bronzer, as it will absorb into the skin more than a powder and give a much more natural look. A touch of cream highlighter will also help with that dewy look. I’ve used my Clinique Chubby Stick in ‘Hefty Highlight’ as a highlighter for this look, and Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel for my bronzer.

Blush
Again, using a cream blush will help give a more natural look than a powder. Add a little to the cheeks for that natural flushed look. One of my favourite cream blushes is Mac Cream Colour Base, which is what I’ve used in this picture.

Brows
Your brows frame the face, but avoid doing quite as much with them as you would for a night out. In this picture I’ve used my Benefit ‘Gimmie Brow’ to brush my brows into shape and give them a nice subtle tint.

Lashes
Go easy on the mascara for your no makeup look. Go for more of a lengthening look than volumising. Eyelash curlers are also great for achieving a longer lash. In this picture I’ve used Smashbox’s eyelash primer, followed by Mac’s Extended Play mascara and have also curled my lashes.

Lips
A nice natural lip gloss or tint will help give your lips a lovely natural sheen, without going overboard and will finish off your no makeup look. In this picture I’ve used Clinique Glosswear in ‘Juicy Apple’.

Get your glam on for Christmas!

| Weddings | , , , | by

I know I keep saying it, but the years are flying by…. And this year is no exception.

Makeup by Sarah-Lou

December is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about Christmas. Which also means it’s time to start thinking about your Christmas party makeup.

I do love Christmas, and I especially love the makeup trends at this time of year. I really enjoy getting my clients glammed up for the Christmas party season, so I thought it would be nice to share some

of my tips with you.

If you’re struggling for a bit of inspiration for your Christmas makeup, then read on…..

A nice warm glow….

Makeup by Sarah-Lou

A nice dewy glow to your skin is perfect for this time of year, and highlighter is definitely one of our favourite makeup pieces at the moment. A sweep over your cheekbones, under your brows, the inner corners of your eyes and your cupid’s bow will add a lovely subtle glow to your Christmas makeup.

Add a bit of sparkle and shimmer…

If you can’t add a bit of sparkle and shimmer at Christmas, then really, when can you? And this most definitely applies to makeup! Whether it’s some shimmery eye makeup, or full on glitter, you just can’t go wrong.

Dare to be bold….

Christmas party makeup

Makeup by Sarah-Lou

Winter is generally a good time to experiment with bolder makeup looks, so what better time to go bold than at Christmas? Try some heavier eyeliner, or darker eyeshadow colours, and finish off with a statement lip colour, such as dark red or plum, and you have the perfect look for Christmas.

In the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing my own Christmas party makeup on this blog. Watch this space for a step-by-step guide and run-down of the products I’ve used.

Prom time!

| Weddings | | by

Is it really almost September? It’s only now that I’ve stopped to breathe I’ve realised my blog has been a little neglected over the last couple of months.

I’ve had an amazingly busy summer, and looking back through all the weddings, proms and beautifying, there’s one particularly special client that stood out for me this year……. My daughter Millie!

prom hair and makeup

Hair and makeup by Sarah-Lou

It was Millie’s last year of primary school this year, which could only mean one thing…. Prom time!

I’ve done quite a few prom hair and makeups over the years, both for high school and primary school. But while I always find the primary school proms exciting, I also find them just that tiny bit more challenging than high school proms. Why? It’s all about getting the balance right between them not yet being a fully-grown woman, but no longer being a child, and still delivering what the client (and mum!) wants.  And I found this especially challenging with my own daughter!

I really had to take a step back for this one. I had to listen to what my daughter was asking for, yet still keep my mum-head on and apply a bit of common-sense. Millie’s very head-strong and knows what she wants, but thankfully she trusted my judgement and in the end, it turned out our views weren’t so far apart after all.

Nails glitter shellac

Glitter Shellac nails by Sarah-Lou

Nails
I honestly think Millie and her friends had been planning their prom outfits since halfway through primary school! When we started talking dresses and shoes Millie straight away said she wanted to wear Converse, which I thought was a great idea! And when she chose silver sparkly Converse, I knew the perfect nails to match.  I’m not overly keen on children having nail enhancements (my own personal opinion), but for her prom I decided to compromise and do Shellac for Millie, which she was very chuffed about. She was a bit unsure of my suggestion of silver glitter to match her Converse, but we went with it and she was delighted with the results.

prom hair

Hair by Sarah-Lou

Hair
Like me, Millie has exceptionally thick hair, so whatever style we went with would really have to stand up to the test! I suggested that, since it was the middle of June and they were going to be Ceilidh dancing, it was probably a better idea to have an updo and Millie agreed 100%. She was quite happy when I suggested a braided bun-style updo, and in fact was happy just to wait until the day without having a trial beforehand. When prom day arrived, she was over the moon with the look I created for her.

Makeup
This is the part I found particularly challenging. Makeup is such a big thing for girls these days, even as young as Primary 7. When I first started thinking about what to do for

prom hair and makeup

Hair and makeup by Sarah-Lou

Millie’s makeup, I worried it would be difficult to strike a balance between my own views on how much makeup she should wear, and what I thought Millie herself might want. Fortunately, I found that when we actually started discussing it, we both had similar ideas on a makeup look that would work. And I hope you’ll agree, we got it spot on.

I had such a fun time doing Millie’s hair and makeup for her prom…. Only another 6 years until her high school prom. Oh, and before that I’ll have my youngest daughter Mia’s Primary school prom too…… I just love being a mum of girls!

The Finishing Touches!

| Weddings | , , | by

I’m sure most of you will know that, as well as hair styling and makeup, I also offer a full range of beauty treatments, from nails, massages and waxing to eyelash extensions, facials and spray tans.

As well as being able to offer a full range of services to my regular clients, including hair and makeup for those special occasions, it’s also great news for my brides-to-be! It means I’m not only there to make sure they look a million dollars on the big day, but I can also help with their all-important beautifying (and relaxation!) in the run up to the wedding day.

So, what better subject for my latest blog post than my tips and advice on your pre-wedding beauty treatments!

Spray tan, hair and makeup by Sarah-Lou

Spray tan, hair and makeup by Sarah-Lou

Spray Tan:
So many brides are unsure whether to get a spray tan for their wedding day, but if you’re thinking about it, then I would definitely advise getting at least one trial tan before your wedding day. If you don’t regularly tan then you won’t know what it will look like and when the best time to have it done would be. Some people like their tan best the day after it’s been done, whereas others prefer it after 2 or 3 days.

Here’s my tips for achieving the best possible tan, and for ensuring it’s a long-lasting and even colour: Exfoliate thoroughly 48 hours beforehand, and shave/wax no later than 24 hours beforehand to give skin time to recover and pores time to close. Moisturise thoroughly the day/night before to provide a good skin base for the tan. Make sure you do not have any lotions, perfumes, oils or deodorants on your skin before the tan, as these will act as a barrier. Wear dark/loose clothing after your tan and ensure arms/legs are fully covered. Overnight tan can be showered off the next morning, or rapid developing tan can be showered off in as little as 1 to 3 hours.

bridal nails, bridal glitter

Nails by Sarah-Lou

Nails:
What bride wouldn’t want her nails done!? You’ve got a lovely new ring to show off so everyone’s going to be looking at your nails, and not to mention the photos too. Even if you don’t regularly have your nails done, why not opt for a basic file and polish with CND’s long-lasting Vinylux nail polish (lasts up to 7 days). And for those who want something a bit longer lasting (think honeymoon!) I can offer Shellac on natural nails, or gel extensions. So many gorgeous designs available for bridal nails.

Eyelash Extensions:
Any kind of eyelash extension will add that finishing touch to your bridal makeup. Strip lashes are included in the price of all of my makeup applications, although many brides choose something a bit more permanent….. again, think honeymoon! Semi-permanent eyelashes will last between 2-4 weeks before they require infilling so are a perfect option for not only your wedding day, but also for the honeymoon too.

Waxing:
Another long-lasting beauty treatment that’s great for your wedding day and honeymoon too….. from underarms, to legs and bikini line. Before getting waxed you need to make sure you have at least ¼ inch (2 weeks) of hair growth, otherwise waxing won’t be as effective. The day before, exfoliate your skin thoroughly to remove dead skin and free any trapped hairs.  If you’re having a spray tan, make sure and wax at least 24 hours beforehand.

bridal lashes, semi permanent lashes

Semi-permanent lashes by Sarah-Lou

Massage and Facials
With so much involved in the planning of a wedding, particularly in the final few weeks, brides can often find themselves getting very stressed. What better way to relax and unwind with a massage or a facial.  Why not involve your bridesmaids too and turn it into a pamper evening, or even better incorporate it into your hen party plans!

Whatever you choose for your pre-wedding beauty treatments, if it’s not a regular treatment for you, or you’re unsure of the look you want, make sure you’ve got your trials booked well in advance. A couple of days before your wedding definitely isn’t when you want to discover you don’t like the colour of your spray tan, or your nails aren’t what you had in mind! I know I always say it, but don’t be tempted to skip the trials!

Sister Act!

| Weddings | , , , | by

A number of my bridal bookings come through recommendations. And it’s often the case that I do hair and makeup for a bridal party, then afterwards one (or more!) of the bridesmaids will book me for her wedding hair and makeup.

So for this blog post I thought it would be nice to feature the weddings of sisters Michelle and Laura, who both booked me to do their bridal makeup.

Bridal makeup, Michelle and bridesmaids, wedding makeup

Makeup by Sarah-Lou

Michelle was the first to get married back in March 2016. I’ve known Michelle for a while now, so was thrilled when she asked me to do her makeup for her special day, along with her 2 bridesmaids and her mum.

It was a cold but sunny day when I arrived at the venue, The Bowfield Hotel & Country Club, and the girls were all excited for the day ahead. Michelle opted for natural smokey eyes with a touch of highlight and finished off with statement red lips, such a lovely look. The bridesmaids also went for a smokey eye, with Ariane going for a slightly heavier look than Laura, but both girls looking equally as gorgeous. Mother of the bride Linda went for a very classic look with natural colours. The girls all looked stunning!

Early the following year, I was delighted to hear from Laura, who was in the middle of planning her wedding for that October. She had been delighted with her makeup when she was bridesmaid for her sister, and wanted to book me to do her wedding makeup too.

The months flew by and before I knew it, Laura’s wedding day had arrived. The venue was The Busby Hotel, also part of the Manorview Group (I absolutely love all of the Manorview Hotels…. Stunning locations with amazing honeymoon suites. There’s definitely been a lot of thought put into the design!).

Mother of bride makeup, wedding makeup

Makeup by Sarah-Lou

I did makeup for Laura, Michelle, and mother of the bride Linda. Laura chose a natural look for her wedding makeup, and I just loved creating a gorgeous soft and dewy look with natural smokey eyes and a natural lip colour. Michelle was looking for something a bit heavier, so we went for darker smokey eyes but kept the lips natural. Linda went for a similar look to what she had for Michelle’s wedding…. Classic with natural colours. And once again, the girls all looked gorgeous!

Since then Michelle, Laura and Linda have asked me back to do their makeup for Linda’s 60th birthday party just a few weeks ago. Thanks again for choosing me to do your makeup girls….. hopefully I’ll be seeing you all again soon for the next special occasion!

2017 in review….

| Weddings | , , , | by

With 60 plus wedding bookings and the ROCCO Award for Excellence in Customer Service, 2017 proved to be another fantastic year for Sarah-Lou Beauty.

It started off with my first wedding booking early in February, an elopement with the lovely Laura and Richard at Ardeonaig Hotel near Loch Tay, and ended just three days before Hogmanay, with bride Katie who came over from New Zealand to marry here in Scotland.

In between there’s been so many memorable weddings, some gorgeous locations, loads more hair and make-ups, my regular beauty clients and finishing the year with a nomination for Best Freelance Hair and Make-up Artist in the Scottish Wedding Awards 2018!

Here’s some highlights from this year’s weddings:

Millie – March 2017
Millie didn’t have a trial beforehand, so the first time I met her was on her wedding morning when I arrived to do her hair and make-up. It turned out the whole wedding was actually a surprise, where all the guests thought they were going to the couple’s farewell party, when actually it was their wedding! How wonderful!

Lynne – April 2017
I first met Lynne at her trial in February. Lynne was unsure about how she wanted her hair and make-up, but after we tried a couple of different styles she settled on a gorgeous top-knot style updo and a very natural look for make-up. Such a fun morning getting Lynne, her bridesmaid and her mum all glammed up for the day ahead.

Denise – May 2017
This was another elopement wedding I did hair and make-up for during 2017. The location this time was the fabulous Lodge on Loch Goil. Denise and her groom only had immediate family at the wedding, which was kept a secret until afterwards. Lovely location and a lovely morning getting the gorgeous bride-to-be glammed up.

Gayle – July 2017
Gayle’s venue was Balmule House near Dunfermline, and what a gorgeous location it was! I did hair for the bride, 2 bridesmaids, 1 flower girl and mother of the bride. The weather was amazing as you would expect for that time of year.

Susan – July 2017
Susan lives in London, but returned home to Scotland to marry at the stunning University of Glasgow Chapel and then on to Three Sister’s Bake in Killearn for the reception. I had a lovely morning beautifying the bride, her 2 bridesmaids and her mum. I just loved styling Susan’s naturally curly hair (and her sister’s as well)!

Jennifer – August 2017
Jennifer was another one of my brides from this year who lives down south, but was returning home to get married. It was a busy but fun morning spent at Jennifer’s Parents’ house doing makeup for Jennifer, her two bridesmaids and her mum.

Brychan – October 2017
There was a real Autumnal feel to Brychan’s wedding hair and make-up, lots of golds and browns and fresh flower hairpieces. I was up very early to get Brychan and her wedding party ready, especially since the bride had probably the longest and thickest hair I have ever seen!

Claire – November 2017
On what was one of the coldest days this year, I left home at 5:30am and headed up to Aberdeenshire to Drumtochty Castle. What a stunning location! I spent the morning doing hair and make-up for bride Claire (originally from California) and her entourage, who had all travelled over from the US for the wedding (2 bridesmaids, mother of the bride and mother of the bride’s friend).

These are just a handful of the weddings I’ve had the pleasure of being involved with in 2017, and I can’t wait to see what my wedding bookings for the coming year will bring. Looking forward to meeting all of my new brides (and catching up with my regular clients too). See you all in 2018!

Top of the ROCCO!

| Weddings | , , , , , | by

It’s now been a couple of weeks since my amazing win at the ROCCOS; The Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce ROCCO Award for Excellence in Customer Service!

I’m absolutely ecstatic with this latest win as it reinforces my commitment to delivering excellent customer service, and to be recognised for this in my local community makes me so proud.

For me this award was a bit different, as it’s not just specific to the wedding industry.  It takes in all kinds of businesses in the Renfrewshire area, some large some small, and all industry types from manufacturing to education, leisure and retail.

First of all, I had to complete an application form, answering questions relating to my business and commitment to customer service. The judges were looking for specific evidence that I have customer satisfaction at the heart of my business, and proof of my continued commitment to exceeding customer expectations.

So my application was completed and submitted in time for the deadline, and a few weeks later I was delighted to receive an email from the organisers saying I’d been shortlisted, along with two other organisations, for the award.

I was particularly delighted with the news because, as a small business, I had been shortlisted alongside two much larger organisations, and for me this is a major achievement.

For the next stage of the judging process I had to prepare a presentation and take part in an interview with the judges.  A bit nerve-wracking, but once I got to work on my presentation I found I had so much to say about my commitment to customer service, and how I can demonstrate this. All of my worries quickly faded, and I actually really enjoyed the process.  Now the hard work had been done, I could look forward to the awards dinner.

On the evening, my award was the first to be announced and I was surprised but thrilled when my name was called out.  My very own business, Sarah-Lou Beauty, chosen as the winner….. WOW! It was a brilliant evening all round, and was a great celebration of some of the fantastic businesses there are in Renfrewshire.

This award is another wonderful accolade for Sarah-Lou Beauty…… thank you everyone for your continued support!
